The baby walker industry has been booming ever since the late 90’s. Every industry has made changes at one time or another in order to allow their products to grow and improve. The baby walker industry has made a few changes to their toys to make them safer for your baby. I would recommend to each family that is looking into the purchase of a baby walker to take a really good look at all of the new safety features made to walkers before making a rash decision based on a negative article that was written in the 90’s. Sure, babies have been hurt while in baby walkers, but babies have also been hurt in one way or another by every toy that is out there. When my sister-in- law was a baby she got a piece of Nerf ball stuck in her nose when no one was watching. Everyone in the house just thought she had some really nasty smelling breath. They took her to the doctor a few times and no one knew what was wrong. A few weeks later she ended up sneezing it out. It could have got infected and done some real damage up there. Other kids have swallowed pieces of Nerf, but do you see anyone going out of their way to put a ban on Nerf balls? Kids get hurt, that is just part of life. We as parents do not want this to happen, but it still does. If you get a baby walker just know that there are risks just like every other toy. Be a good parent and watch your baby and everything will be just fine.

There are all types and styles of baby walker. If you look you will be able to find one just right for your baby.

Evolution

We all evolve as time goes on. Do you really think that if the walkers were still unsafe that they would still be a 3 million dollar per year industry? Nearly half of all babies between 6 months and 17 months have a baby walker. To me that still shows that the industry is doing just fine. Like I have stated in other posts, baby walkers can be a great toy for your little one if you make sure that it has passed all of the safety standards.

There have been many groups that have tried to ban baby walkers because of the safety issue. Their argument simply states that these baby walkers do not help kids walk. Well I am sorry Captain Obvious, but most toys that babies play with these days do not benefit the baby in the way that you would hope. Do you think that if a 4 or 5 year old plays the Xbox that he or she is building hand eye coordination? It is possible, but what are the games teaching him or her about violence? It is a double edged sword in my opinion. The baby walker does not help build all of the muscles to help your baby walk, that is correct, but it does help some muscles and it is a lot of fun. Between 1995 and 1999 the annual number of injuries dropped 56 percent because of all of the new safety features. So, get out there and get your baby a Baby Walkers!

I think this is the coolest baby walker

Great article eliadams. I agree that people go overboard worrying about safety features on some toys, like walkers. Cute video too!
